Prof Man Yee Kan appointed Senior Member of OxHKScholars

Dr Anthony Cheong has served in OxHKScholars as the Founding Senior Member since 2015. Following his departure from Oxford, we have appointed Professor Man Yee Kan to our incoming Senior Membership.

Professor Man Yee Kan (簡敏儀教授) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology, University of Oxford. Nurtured as a sociologist in Hong Kong, Man Yee obtained her bachelor and Master's degree at the University of Hong Kong. She went on to Oxford for her DPhil in Sociology, then postdoctorate and associate professionship. She has been awarded a number of academic awards, including a recent ERC Consolidator Grant for a project on temporal structures of gender inequalities in East Asian and Western countries. She is an established scholar in the field, where her research interests are gender inequalities in the family and the labour market, marriage, the gender division of labour, time use research, welfare and public policy regimes in Western and East Asian societies.

She replaces the outgoing Senior Member Dr Anthony Cheong, who has joined us since our establishment and now departs from Oxford for his new academic position aboard. She will take up the responsibility of overseeing the activities and endorsing the financial report annually, according to the Regulations for the Activities and Conduct of Student Members.

Our committee has met Man Yee for a brief meeting and is certain that Man Yee will continue to uphold the vigour of our Association. We are much certain that our Association will benefit greatly from her Membership and advice. We would also want to take the opportunity to extend our warmest gratitude to Anthony for his dedication in the past years and wish him all the best in his academic endeavours.
